Q. 300 ml 0.1 M HCl and 200 ml of 0.03 M $H_{2}SO_{4}$ are mixed. Calculate the normality of the resulting mixture
Solutions
A
$0.084\, N$
21%
B
$0.84 \,N$
22%
C
$2.04 \,N$
32%
D
$2.84\, N$
25%
Solution:
$\begin{matrix}{\text{For}} HCl&{\text{For}} H_{2} SO_{4}\\ V_{1}=300 ml&V_{2}=200 ml\\ N_{1}=M\times {\text{Basicity}}&N_{2}=M\times {\text{Basicity}}\\ =0.1\times1=0.1&=0.03\times2=0.06\end{matrix}$
Normality of the mixture ,
$N=\frac{V_{1}N_{1}+V_{2}N_{2}}{V_{1}+V_{2}}$
$=\frac{300\times0.1+200\times0.06}{500}$
$=\frac{30+12}{500}$
$=0.084\,N$
