Q. $3.7 \,g$ of a gas at $25^{\circ}C$ occupies the same volume as $0.184\, g H_{2}$ at $17^{\circ}C$ at same pressure. Molecular weight of the gas is

States of Matter

Solution:

Since pressure and volume of $H_{2}$ and given gas are same
$\left(PV\right)_{\text{gas}} = \left(PV\right)_{H_2}$
$\frac{m_{\text{gas}}}{M_{\text{gas}}} RT_{\left(gas\right)} = \frac{m_{H_2}}{M_{H_2}}RT_{\left(H_2\right)}$
$\frac{3.7}{M_{\text{gas}}} \times R \times 298 = \frac{0.184}{2} \times R \times 290$
$M_{\text{gas}} = 41.3$
