Q. $200\, mL$ of water is added to a $500\, mL$ of $0.2 \,M$ solution. What is the molarity of this diluted solution?

KEAMKEAM 2010Solutions

Solution:

0.2 molar solution, ie, 1000 mL solution contains 0.2 mol solute.
$ \therefore $ 500 mL solution contains 0.1 mol solute thus, 700 mL solution contain
$ \frac{0.1}{500}\times 700=0.14\text{ }mol $
$ \therefore $ Molarity of solution = 0.14 M
