Q. $18\, g$ of sucrose is dissolved in $162\, g$ of water. Calculate the mass percentage of solution.

Solutions

Solution:

We know that mass percentage
$=\frac{\text { Mass of the component in the solution }}{\text { Total mass of the solution }} \times 100$
and total mass of solution
= mass of sucrose (solute) $+$ mass of solvent (water)
$=(18+162) g =180 \,g$
$\therefore$ Mass percentage $=\frac{18}{180} \times 100=10 \%$
