Q. $1$ mole of ferric oxalate is oxidized by $x$ moles of $MnO _4^{-}$.Thus, $x$ is

Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry

Solution:

$\underset{1\,mol}{Fe_2(C_2O_3)} \rightleftharpoons 2Fe^{3+} +\underset{3\,mol}{3C_2O_4^{2-}}$
Only $C _2 O _4^{2-}$ oxidised
$2 \,MnO _4^{-}+5 C _2 O _4^{2-} \rightarrow 10\, CO _2+2 \,Mn ^{2+}$
$5 \,mol\, C _2 O _4^{2-} \equiv 2 \,mol\, MnO _4^{-}$
$\therefore 3 \,mol \,C _2 O _4^{2-}=1.2\, mol \,MnO _4^{-}$
