Q. $ 1 \,mol $ alcohol reacts with $ Na $ to give what weight of hydrogen ?

MHT CETMHT CET 2010Alcohols Phenols and Ethers

Solution:

$\underset{\overset{2 mol}{1 mol}}{2C_2H_5OH} + 2Na \rightarrow 2C_2H_5ONa + \underset{\overset{1 mol}{\frac{1}{2} mol}}{H_2}$

The weight of $ \frac{1}{2}\, mol\, H_2=\frac{2}{2}g=1\, g $

Thus, 1 g $ H_2 $ is produced when 1 mole of alcohol reacts with $Na$.
