Eichhornia crassipes, commonly known as water hyacinth is considered the terror of Bengal as it grows at a rapid rate over the surface of water. This plant was introduced in Bengal cause of its beautiful flower and leaf-shape. Although, it turned out to be a weed which drained the oxygen from water bodies leading to destruction of fish stock. In Bengal, it is called as 'blue devil' and in rest part of India, it is known as 'terror of Bengal'. Vallisneria is a group of freshwater aquatic submerged plant. Commonly called as eel grass and spreads by runners in water forming underwater meadows.
Hydrilla is a submerged aquatic plant native to Africa and Europe.
