Vestigial organs are those which occur in reduced form and are useless to the possessor, but are homologous to the fully developed, functional organs of related animals. Their existence is explained by the doctrine of evolution. These organs were fully developed, functional and necessary in the ancestral forms, but are gradually disappearing in the living forms due to the change in their mode of life.
