The given structure is of ribose sugar which is a 5C sugar. This sugar is part of the nucleic acid -RNA found in the genetic material of the tobacco mosaic virus. It has a pentagonal cyclic structure formed by binding of the carbon 1 and 4 attached by an oxygen atom. Deoxyribose sugar found in DNA (which is the genetic material of bacteriophage) differs from ribose sugar in the absence of 'O' atom on the 2nd C atom. Monosaccharide present in animal starch (glycogen) is glucose which has a hexagonal ring (pyranose ring). Fructose is the monosaccharide present in inulin.
