Smooth endoplasmic reticulum is the part of endoplasmic reticulum on which ribosomes are not present which takes part in lipid synthesis, fat synthesis, glycosylation of carbohydrates steroid synthesis and detoxification. Whereas rough endoplasmic reticulum is the site of protein synthesis.
