Solution:

Non-living things show only extrinsic growth or growth from outside, whereas intrinsic growth is a characteristic of living organisms only. For example- a table wood may become bulgy in appearance during winter due to absorption of water. The wood does grow but that is due to the physical absorption of water and not metabolism.
