Different species in the environment interact with each other. These interactions can be beneficial, detrimental or neutral. The different population interactions seen are parasitism, competition, mutualism, commensalism, etc. In an environment where the resources are limited and if there are two closely related species competing for the same resource then the competitively inferior species will be eliminated eventually. This is known as Gause's Competitive Exclusion Principle
