: Vacuoles are surrounded by vacuolar membrane or tonoplast. Like plasma membrane this is also made up of unit membrane which is selectively permeable and encloses a solution termed as vacuolar sap. In a young plant cell there present small vacuoles and with the growth of the cell they fuse to form a large central vacuole.
