Cyanobacteria belong to myxophyceae and are also known as blue-green algae. They are photosynthetic organisms having chlorophyll similar to higher plants. Unlike other bacteria, they carry out oxygenic photosynthesis as they are capable of utilizing water as a source of hydrogen in photosynthesis. These cyanobacteria consist of an incipient nucleus, which is a nucleoid or primitive nucleus dispersed in the cytoplasm.
