Collenchyma cells have thickenings on the cell wall and in corners of intercellular spaces. They are not found in roots and monocots. These cells form hypodermis in stem and petiole. It is living mechanical tissue with a high refractive index. The thickening material in the cell wall contains pectin, cellulose, hemicelluloses.
