Solution:
Oil spills are devastating to the environment as these are known to be fatal to marine organisms. Bioremediation uses microorganisms to break down pollutants into less toxic form.
The Pseudomonas putida is a Gram-ve rod-shaped, saprophytic soil microbe with diverse metabolism. It has the ability to degrade organic solvents and this ability has been used in the bioremediation process. It is considered as a superbug due to its ability to break down oil.
One of its variety called multiplasmid hydrocarbon-degrading Pseudomonas is the first patented organism in the world.
