In cockroaches, there are ten pairs of spiracles, they have slit-like openings that aid in respiration. The first two pairs are known as thoracic spiracles lying in thorax and the remaining eight pairs are called abdominal spiracles and are present in the first eight abdominal segments. The first thoracic and first abdominal spiracles remains open all the time whereas the remaining spiracles open during inspiration and close during expiration.
