Solution:

The root caps that have lost their utility because of being in use are called root pockets. Once these pockets are removed, they cannot be regenerated. Since the plants' roots growing in water hang freely, they have no resistance or friction from the soil particles to overcome. Hence, they become vestigial. Pistia is a free-floating aquatic plant, which has a cluster of adventitious roots arising from the nodal portion.
