Solution:
Connell's elegant field experiments showed that on rocky sea coasts of Scotland, the intertidal area is dominated by larger barnacle called Balanus. It eliminates the smaller barnacle Chathamalus from this area. Gause's 'Competitive Exclusion Principle' states that two closely related species competing for the same resources cannot co-exist indefinitely and the competitively inferior one will be eliminated eventually. Five closely related species of warblers could live on the same tree and avoid competition due to their behavioural differences. This was shown by MacArthur.
