Perisperm is the persistant vestigial part of nucellus. Generally nucellus is used up by developing embryo but in some families, eg, Amaranthaceae, Gingiberaceae etc, nucellus is used to cover the embyro sac and is found in condensed form with food material which is called perisperm.
