Solution:

W.C. Pei (1924) discovered the fossils of Peking man from the lime stone caves of Choukoutein near Peking (Beijing — capital of China was formerly known as Peking) and named them Sinanthropus. Davidson Black (1927) named it Sinanthropus pekinensis. It was renamed as Homo erectus pekinensis (a subspecies) by Mayr in 1950. About 6 lakhs years ago Peking man fossils were excavated from Pleistocene rocks.
