The above graph represents the absorption spectrum. It is a graph that depicts the absorption of various wavelengths of light by photosynthetic pigments. In this graph pigment, 1 is chlorophyll b, pigment 2 is carotenoids and pigment 3 is chlorophyll a. On separation of the leaf pigments of any green plant through paper chromatography we find that chlorophyll a appears bright or blue-green, chlorophyll b appears yellow-green, xanthophylls appear yellow and carotenoids appear yellow to yellow-orange.
