: Microfilaments are long solid fibres made up of actin, the protein that by its interaction with myosin brings about contraction of muscle. Actin and its mRNA are present in all types of cells. Microtubules, intermediate filaments (8-14 nm in diameter) and micro filaments (4-6 nm in diameter) along with proteins form the cytoskeleton of the cell.
