Solution:

Intercostal muscles are found between ribs of human. These muscles work with diaphragm during ventilation. Intercostal muscles are of two types :
(i) Internal intercostal muscles, which depress the ribs and thus, help in expiration.
(ii) External intercostal muscles which elevate the ribs and thus, help in inspiration.
