Anatomically the monocot stem is composed of epidermis, hypodermis, ground tissue and vascular bundles. Epidermis is made up of one layer of cells. Hypodermis may found below the epidermis or absent. Ground tissue is the entire mass of parenchyma cells and not differentiated into cortex, endodermis, pericycle and pith. Many vascular bundles are scattered in the ground tissue. Each vascular bundle is parenchymatous surrounded by a sheath of sclerenchymatous fibres.
