Placenta is a temporary organ which is formed during pregnancy inside the uterus. It is foetomaternal in origin. The foetal part is chorionic villi and maternal part is decidua basalis. These chorionic villi are also known as placental villi and are responsible for maximum contact with the maternal blood. These receive blood from umbilical arteries.
