If a,b and c are the direction ratios of a line, then the direction cosines of a line are l=a2+b2+c2a, m=a2+b2+c2b n=a2+b2+c2c
Given direction ratios are 1,−3 and 2. ∴ Direction cosines are l=12+(−3)2+221, m=−12+(−3)2+223 n=12+(−3)2+(2)22
i.e ., l=141,m=−143,n=142
In any line has only one direction cosine but the direction ratios may be more than one.
