The striated muscle tissue is under the voluntary control of the somatic nervous system. The skeletal muscles are attached to bones by collagen fibres known as tendons. Smooth muscle cells are spindle-shaped structures with a single nucleus. Smooth muscles are mitotically dividing cells that produce new cells regularly. Smooth muscle is a type of tissue found in the walls of hollow organs, such as the intestines, uterus and stomach. These are also found in the walls of passageways, including arteries and veins of the cardiovascular system. The cardiac muscle tissue is those which form the heart. The cardiac muscle tissue is responsible for the heart-pumping activity.
