Activity of cambium is to provide secondary growth to plant that is increasing girth of plant and thickening stems and roots. This increase in girth is lateral in comparison to primary growth . Cambium activity increases diameter laterally but do not add lateral appendages or branches . So, we can say cambium is a part of lateral meristem.
