Heart muscles are sensitive to electrical, chemical and mechanical stimulus. Conduction of heart beat across the heart is an electrical process. Chemicals (hormones) such as adrenaline, nor-adrenaline and thyroxine can accelerate heart beat. Physical stimuli such as artificial pacemaker also stimulates the heart at regular intervals to maintain its beat.
