The life cycle in which haploid gametophyte and diploid sporophyte alternate with each other is called the haplodiplontic life cycle. In Bryophyta haploid gametophyte is the main plant body on which a small dependent sporophyte is produced. In Pteridophytes, the diploid sporophyte is the main plant body and a small independent gametophyte is produced.
