Bacteriophages are the viruses that infect the bacteria and archaea. Bacteria and archaea are members of kingdom monera. Bacteriophages are simple organisms that consist of a core of the genetic material surrounded by a protein capsid. The genetic material may be either DNA or RNA and may be single-stranded or double-stranded. But generally, most of the bacteriophages contain ds DNA as their genetic material. Bacteriophage reproduces by lytic cycle and lysogenic cycle.
