Q.
Assuming Newton's law of cooling to be valid, the temperature of body changes from 60∘C to 40∘C in 7min. Temperature of surrounding being 10∘C. Find its temperature after next 7min.
Let after next 7 min, its temperature be θ .
From Newton's law of cooling. tθ1−θ2∝(2θ1+θ2−θ0)
where θ0= temperature of surrounding. ∴760−40∝(260+40−10)...(i)
and 740−θ∝(240+θ−10) ...(ii)
Dividing Eq. (i) by Eq. (ii), we obtain 720×(40−θ)7=(20+θ)/240 ⇒40−θ20=20+θ40×2 ⇒20+θ=160−4θ ⇒5θ=160−20=140 ∴θ=5140=28∘C
