Solution:

Photosynthesis is an anabolic process by which green plants fix environmental CO2. In this process, the energy coming from the sun is also trapped by photosynthetic pigments and then used. The main product of this process is the carbohydrates (chiefly C6H12O6) and by-products are O2 and H2O. This is the only biological process by which solar energy is trapped in the biomolecules. The process of photosynthesis occurs in two steps.
First step of photosynthesis is called light reaction that occurs in the grana (grana contains the photosynthetic pigments which trap the energy coming from the sun). In this reaction, the solar energy coming from the sun is trapped by photosynthetic pigments like chlorophyll and helps in the formation of two high energy molecules- ATP and NADPH2. These two molecules together referred to as the Assimilatory Powers. The breakdown of water (photolysis) takes place in this process.
Second step of photosynthesis is a complete enzyme-mediated process- Dark reaction, that occurs in the stroma (because stroma contains the necessary enzymes for this process). In this step, the products of the light reaction (Assimilatory powers) are used to reduce the CO2 in the form of C6H12O6.
