The satellite that is equipped with electronic devices so as to receive the signals from earths stations, process it, amplify it and then retransmit, is called active satellite. An active satellite carries different types of sensors (camera, infrared scanner, microwave scanner etc.) which transmit information in the form of data and pictures to earths stations while passive satellite does not have such equipment on it.
