Velocity of ball before entering the water surface, v=2gh=2g×10cm/s ... (i)
When ball enters into water, due to upthrust of water the velocity of ball decreases. ∴ retardation, a= mass of ball apparent weight =VσV(σ−ρ)g=(σσ−ρ)g =(0.50.5−1)×g =−g
Let d be the depth upto which ball sinks then, using III rd, kinematical equation, 0−v2=2×−g×d v2=2gd ∴2×g×10=2gd ....(Using (i)] ∴d=10cm
