Q.
10g of a mixture of BaO and CaO requires 100cm3 of 2.5MHCl to react completely. The percentage of calcium oxide in the mixture is approximately
(Given : molar mass of BaO=153)
Let, mass of CaO=xg ∴ Mass of BaO=(10−x)g
Again, ∵ equivalent mass of BaO =2 molar mass =2153=76.5 ∴ Number of moles of BaO=76.510−x
and ∵ equivalent mass of CaO=256=28 ∴ Number of moles of CaO=28X
From molarity = volume of solution (in L) moles of solute 2.5=1000100 moles of solute ∴ Moles of solute =10002.5×100
or 28x+76.510−x=0.25
or 76.5x+28(10−x)=0.25×28×76.5
or 48.5x=255.5
or x=48.5255.5=5.26 ∴% of CaO=105.26×100=52.6%
